It all started in November when we decided to plant two types of tulips. For those who have followed our Tulips' Odissey this is the summary.

This is just to wish you a great weekend and to remind you that we will be back on Monday with new activities and some surprises to commemorate World Book Day. 

I hope you had a wonderful vacation and that the return to the routine has been smooth. Students are very enthusiastic and we all are ready for this last term.

We were pleasantly surprised to have Orange Tulips in our window boxes. 

 

We all know that orange is the national color in The Netherlands ( after all, the King hails from the House of Orange ). There is a day, 27th April, when all you can see on the Dutch streets is the  orange color. Are our tulips waiting for that date to bloom? Our little gardeners are doing great so , what's going on with all our orange tulips?

 

Plants colours our window boxes.We continue to closely monitor tulip's developments. In autumn we planted two different types of tulips: Passionale ( purple) and Prinses Irene (orange). To make the pots more beautiful we planted, in each pot,  one orange, one purple, one orange and one purple. 

Here we are with the present situation!!! Passionale tulips is all we can see!!!

Where is the orange one? Two purple together????

From now on, the pots we had in the greenhouse decorate our  classroom's window joining  the fourth pot that has been suffering all type of risks this winter.

Will they bloom? It is a little early to make conclusions. Will we see how much of a difference it will make to be indoors or outdoors?

For those who follow our tulip's project just to say that "we can see the light at the end of the corridor". The weather is getting warmer, the days are longer...we are happy, everything is on the right track and, as you can see, a lovely purple tulip is flourishing!

This morning when we came into class, we were shocked to find that the soil had been knocked out of the plant pot. This was very surprising to us, as we had covered it carefully with a net and wire so that the birds couldn't destroy it.

This couldn't have been a bird, or any other animal so we are asking ourselves, who or what did this to our tulip project?

As for the rest of the plant pots, they are safe and growing well in our greenhouse corridor.

Thinking about the risks of birds sabotage during the coming long weekend, we have been looking for different solutions.

The need for deterrent measures is clear and here is our first proposal. Hope it works!

We would never have imagined that after the weekend we would find all our window boxes dug. The bulbs were outside...Who did that? We are thinking on those black birds, who knows!

In those days , you could not make this up!

Besides, we found out that the bulbs were not sleeping at all , they believe is spring because the warm weather.

The odds had appeared to be stacked heavily againts our Tulip's project.

The present  for our class that I mentioned some weeks ago,  it  has been opened.Due to the good weather conditions,  we have been planting tulip bulbs!

How to plant a tulip bulb

1- First make sure that the season is autumn and that is nor warm, not to cold either, just cold.

2- Next, decide where to plant the bulbs. They grow best in a sunny , dry place.

3- After that, you need to dig holes for the bulbs.

4- Now you can plant the bulbs ( purple and orange). Put them in pointy-side first.

 5- Then cover them with soil.

6- Finally, you need water the bulbs lightly. Don't give them too much water.

And from now on we need a lot of patience to see the results in spring when we will be on the unit "Plants and flowers"

With the arrival of the first cold days we will plant a typical flower from The Netherlands. Can you guess what is the name of this plant? First, we will bury the bulbs in the earth and while we are learning many things and growing in knowledge, our plants will suprise us in spring with the most beautiful flowers to decorate our class!
